The Diamond Hand Pad Explained

While smoothing and polishing are commonly done by electric tools in foundries, there are some surfaces that need a manual tool to achieve the best results. Diamond hand pads are handheld tools that can be used on flat and hard surfaces to give them a cleaner and more even surface. So, what exactly are diamond pads and how are they used in foundries and for industrial processes? What is their purpose and what different types are available? Here is our full guide to diamond hand pads.

What are diamond Hand Pads?

Selection of diamond hand pads

Diamond pads are made up of tiny, electroplated diamonds woven into a solid hand block. The block itself is often colour coded to indicate the grit size of the pad. This allows you to quickly identify the correct grit size without needing to check the label. To achieve the best results, coarse grit sizes like 60, 100, 200 and 400 feature metal-bonded diamond pads, while finer grit sizes like 800, 1500 and 3000 feature resin-bonded diamonds for removing any defects left by coarser pads.

What are diamond Hand Pads Used For?

Diamond pads are used to polish and smooth surfaces that electric tools are less effective on. They work very well for a variety of tasks including smoothing, grinding, and polishing, as well as removing small imperfections from surfaces. They can be used on a number of surfaces including granite, marble, limestone, glass, ceramic and metal. All grit sizes can be used for wet or dry grinding, although wet grinding is always the more efficient option.

Benefits of Diamond Pads

  • Easy to Use – Diamond pads do not need any complex assembling or setting up to use. Just choose the grit size that you need for the job and apply it firmly to the surface you are trying to polish. The diamonds in the pad will do most of the work for you.
  • Better Results – Compared to other types of abrasives, diamond pads create a much smoother and more polished surface. As such, they are often used in projects where a high-quality finish is required.
  • Lasts Longer – When it comes to the pads themselves, diamond pads will last a long time without breaking down. Diamonds are one of the hardest materials for abrasive products, making purchasing them a great investment overall.
  • More Versatility – Diamond pads can be used on a wide variety of materials and surfaces, from metal to granite to marble and more. With different grit sizes available, there are diamond pads available for any type of polishing job.
